Electrospun HPMC/PEO-blend orodispersible films: how slight batch differences affect the crucial mechanical properties

Abstract Orodispersible films comprise a promising dosage form with wide range of advantages compared to conventional formulations. The electrospinning process can significantly enhance the relevant characteristics orodispersible films, e.g., dissolution rate and ease administration. This study involved use two types hydroxypropyl methylcelluloses low molecular weight obtained from three different manufacturers as matrix. SEM, FTIR, RAMAN, DSC analyses revealed comparable values for all fabricated materials. However, mechanical properties fibers differed significantly, electrospun Methocel E5/PEO proving be particularly brittle. is probably caused by arrangements substituted methoxy- groups studied HPMCs. It hoped that this paper will serve an example extent which slight differences between HPMC powder batches dramatically alter key films.
